Processing

FWPA research projects classified under the Processing category are focused on research and development projects on hardwood and softwood sawmilling and processing.

Processing projects cover topics including improved efficiency of the use of wood resources through improved methods of sawmilling, timber drying or enhancing timber properties like durability

A key goal of the Processing research is to create greater value in wood products by increasing the certainty in grading and verification of the timber qualities for specific applications.

  • M. Kapambwe, F. Ximenes, P. Vinden & R. Keenan PNA016-0708 11 May 2009

To improve estimates of carbon stocks in housing in Australia, in particular improving estimates of housing longevity, patterns of change in the quantity of wood used in housing overtime and the fate of wood following demolition or renovation, and to analyse the potential for increases in carbon stocks in housing given adoption of alternative policies to encourage greater use of timber or increased longevity of timber in housing.

  • R.G. Benyon, T.M. Doody, S. Theiveyanathan and V. Koul PNC064-0607 11 July 2009

To provide quantitative data on plantation water use at six field sites in SW Victoria. Undertake thorough testing of three models to assess each model's input data requirements and ability to predict plantation water use across a range of site conditions for region-wide estimation of impacts of plantations on water resources.
