Forestry Learning - US expert addresses Primary Industries Education Foundation of Australia Conference
Leading US Forestry Educator Rick Zenn, from the World Forestry Centre in Oregon, spoke at the Primary Industries Education Foundation of Australia (PIEFA) Conference about the importance of including nature, trees and forests and wood products in classroom activities.
Rick also led an interactive excursion for 35 teachers to Canberra’s National Arboretum on the first day of the conference, where he co-presented with Heather Tregoning, the National Arboretum’s Education Officer. Rick’s talk showed teachers how they could incorporate forestry related topics into their curriculum and engage children about being in nature.
The conference, held in Canberra, was attended by 200 teachers and educators from all over Australia. PIEFA reported that teachers who went on the excursion said that it was a “highlight of the conference”.
There was also considerable support for the excursion by forestry industry (FCNSW, ACT Parks and Conservation, TCA and Department of Agriculture and Wanter and Forest Education Foundation).
