Campaign for pro-timber building code changes
FWPA is spearheading a bid to change building regulations to enable the use of fire-protected timber as a deemed to satisfy solution for schools, shops, aged care facilities and other such buildings.
FWPA is funding extensive fire engineering research and technical analysis to determine the safety of fire-protected timber and automatic sprinklers systems compared to non-combustible construction materials in terms of risk to life in the event of fire.
The analysis is designed to lay the groundwork for a proposal to change the National Construction Code to facilitate greater use of fire-protected building elements (e.g. floors and walls) in schools, shops, aged care and healthcare facilities.
