Generating awareness of wood benefits - how can you help?

Generating awareness of wood benefits - how can you help?

FWPA is calling on its members and other stakeholders to help spread the word about some of its important awareness raising initiatives.

Part of FWPA’s mission is to collaborate with government and industry to grow the market for forest and wood products. Members and other stakeholders can assist with this mission by helping to generate further awareness of the benefits of wood and prompt changes in community attitudes and perceptions.

Throughout June and July our latest series of 15-second consumer ads featuring well-known architect Peter Maddison have been airing on television and shared online.

In the videos, produced as part of our strategic alliance with Planet Ark, Peter sings the praises of wood as a flooring, furniture, framing and packaging material, and consumers are directed to Planet Ark’s Make It Wood website.

We encourage FWPA members and stakeholders to share these advertisements, which can be found by clicking here, via their own websites and social media channels.

Members and stakeholders can also ask their local councils or government bodies to consider adopting Wood Encouragement Policies (WEPs).

A WEP generally requires responsibly sourced wood to be considered, where feasible, as the primary construction material in all new-build and refurbishment projects.

Thanks to additional work conducted in this area over the past 12 months as part of Planet Ark’s Make It Wood initiative, Tasmania has become the first State Government to adopt a WEP, with two Local Government Authorities and 12 local councils also making the commitment.

For more information on WEPs, visit click here. To discuss how you can help influence your council’s decision making in this area, please contact David Rowlinson at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 0400 474 412.

Ric Sinclair said, “At FWPA, we believe in an ethos of collaboration. It is up to all of us to help make our industry as successful as it can possibly be and, by sharing the messages of some of our wonderful initiatives, all members and stakeholders can do their bit.”
