National Construction Code (NCC) Proposals for Change update

FWPA submitted three Proposals for Change (PFC) for consideration by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) and each was successful in being incorporated into the draft version of the NCC Volumes 1 and 2. These changes are expected to create significant new sales opportunities for wood and wood products The final decision will be publicly available in February 2016, with approved changes coming into effect in May 2016.

FWPA’s proposal for change activities include:

  • Mid-rise Timber Buildings (NCC Vol. 1) 
    This PFC, as reported in detail in previous issues of ForWood, requests that timber buildings (Class 2, 3, & 5) of up to 25m with sprinkler systems be recognised as a Prescriptive/performance solution

  • Referencing of AS1720.4-2006  (NCC Vol. 1) 
    This PFC requests that the NCC Vol. 1 list of Referenced Documents be updated to reference the AS 1720.4-2006 Timber structure – Fire resistance for structural adequacy of timber members edition of the Standard

  • Weatherboards  (NCC Vol. 2) 
    This PFC requests that the NCC Vol. 2 recognise the practice of installing profiled timber boards vertically or diagonally as a Prescriptive/performance solution
