Comparative service life assessment of window systems

Comparative service life assessment of window systems

Two major trends are significant for the Australian windows market: the growth in competition from imported manufactured (mainly PVC) windows and the growing concern for environmental issues. This growing pressure to embrace sustainable development has become a major focus of change in the real estate and construction industries as both public and private sector clients increasingly demand “Green” buildings. Conducting a thorough Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) ensures window systems are environmentally appropriate.

This project assessed the service life and life cycle environmental performance of the main window systems used in the Australian market. Both timber framed and aluminium-skinned timber framed windows were compared with their major competitors in the market.
